Can Titan 21K Bolt-On Coupler be Used for a 14K Trailer
Question:
I have a tandem axle 14000lb dump trailer that was factory derated to 9990lb. it has an adjustable 2 5/16 hitch on it with just two bolts, it has become loose and worn and Im afraid it will break. I was thinking that the 21000lb coupler with the three mounting bolts would be less sloppy and last longer. But would it be overkill?

Helpful Expert Reply:
As long as your adjustable bolt holes are 2" apart (see attached photo) the Titan Bolt-On Coupler # T4855300 would be a great option! The coupler being rated for more than the GVWR of the trailer can actually be a good thing. Just be sure that you don't exceed the weight rating of your trailer as this will not increase the rating of your trailer unless your current coupler is the limiting factor.
