Hitch bike racks are the best way to go. They give you the most secure mounting point, they are the easiest to unload/load and install uninstall, and they don't touch any painted body panels. For a hitch the etrailer.com hitch part # E98867 is a great USA made option that would work well.
For a bike rack I really like the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F.
This is a platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 35 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this rack you get the best of both worlds. The preferred attachment style with the lighter weight.
