Comparing 2018 Toyota RAV4 Towing Capacities to Trailer Hitch Capacities
Question:
Do the towing capacities of my 2018 Toyota RAV4 equal the capacities of the trailer hitches that fit it?

Expert Reply:
The towing capacities of your 2018 Toyota RAV4 may have the same capacities of the trailer hitches that fit it.
For example, the Curt # C13406 is a Class III hitch with a 350 lb tongue weight capacity and 3,500 lb towing capacity.
According to the owner's manual your '18 RAV4 has a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs if you do not have the Towing Package. If you do have the Towing Package the capacity is 2,900 lbs for 2WD models and 3,500 lbs for AWD models.
I highly recommend the Curt # C13406 because it has a hidden crosstube and still meets the maximum capacity of your RAV4. If you take a look at the accompanying photo a customer sent us you can see how this hitch looks on an '18 RAV4. I have also added a link to an install video of this hitch for you to check out.
For wiring which will give your RAV4 a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # 118578. It is recommended you use Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755 to help prevent any type of future corrosion in your connector and extend its lifespan and durability.
I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
You can use the link to the help article on ball mounts I've added to determine if this kit will give you the correct amount of drop or rise. I've also attached a link to our pages with each of our ball mounts and hitch balls for you to check out.
