What Strap to Use when Hauling a Carrier with the Curt Trailer Hitch on a 2003 Chevy Impala

Question:

You state that all non-trailer usages require supporting straps. I have a lightweight wheelchair carrier to haul a compact wheelchair of about 30 to 35 lbs. What type supporting straps are appropriate for a usage like this? 2003 Chevy Impala

The Curt Class II Trailer hitch Receiver # C12252 that fits your 2003 Chevrolet Impala does require using a support strap like part # 18050 for all non-trailer loads just like you mentioned. Basically you just want to connect the hook to your trunk or one of the safety chain loops on the trailer hitch and then secure the other end to your carrier to help keep the carrier from moving.

If you would like to avoid using the support strap then you can use the Draw-Tite Class II Trailer Hitch # 36407 which installs the same way and has the same specs as the Curt, but Draw-Tite does not require a stabilizer strap to be used.

Attached are some installation videos for the trailer hitches as well as an installation video for the strap so you can get an idea of how to install it.
