What Causes Oblong Holes on a Weight Distribution System Head
Question:
My RB58112 wears out at the top spring bar hole in 5,000 miles. I’m guessing that because my Trailblazer saggs really bad and requires a lot of tension on the spring bars to get the car back close to normal ride height. With the car at normal ride height the trailer is level, as it should be. My trailer is a 5,000 LB HiLo. Do to the severe sag in my Trailblazer rear suspension not only do I have overload springs on the rear I am also using the 1,000LB 10,000 gross trailer weight spring bars. Any suggestions for a way to get around the wearing out problems

I spoke to my contact at Reese about the Replacement Head for Reese Weight Distribution System part # RP58112 and they informed me that the misshapen holes are more than likely a result of poor lubrication. The holes in the head for the spring bar sockets need to be lubed with some spray white lithium grease before each use. When the sockets in the spring bar head are not lubed properly, they create excess heat which can cause the holes to become oblong after extended use. The tension on the spring bars would not cause this issue.
