Question:

I need to install a 7-way and brake controller in my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, what all do I need? It has no trailer wiring currently.

To install a 7-way and brake controller in your 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited first requires you to install a 4-way connector part # 118786 which provides all of the trailer lighting functions and then convert to a 7-way with the part # ETBC7 which the 4-way plugs into and comes with everything needed to wire up a brake controller. I attached an install video for this kit on a similar 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as yours for you to check out as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.

I’m looking to upgrade my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited from a 4-pin trailer connection to a 7-pin with brake controller to pull an R-pod travel trailer. What will I need? Thank you.

My personal recommendation here is a combination of the Wiring Kit # ETBC7L and the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C51180. The Wiring Kit includes everything you need to convert your 4-Way to a 7-Way (plus wiring to activate the 12V circuit). The Curt Echo then simply plugs into the 7-Way and pairs to your smart phone via Bluetooth, eliminating the need to add anything extra inside the vehicle (like with just about any other controller).
