Recommended Trailer Tire Upgrade for 4.80-12 Size Tires

Question:

Hello, I have a harbor freight 4x8 trailer with 3.75 inch rims and a 4-bolt pattern with 4.80 inch X 12 inch B tires. I would like to upgrade these tires for a higher load capacity and better handling in snow. Do you have a recommendation for this?

If you want to keep the same size tire then I recommend going with the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. This is a radial tire (better for highway use than bias) with a load rating C (990 lbs at 90 psi) and a max speed rating of 81 mph. This tire does fit 12" x 4" rims though so if you truly do have a 3-3/4" wide rim (measured from bead seat to bead seat) then you will also need to use a different wheel.

If this is the case then I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX. Ths white spoke wheel has the same 4 on 4" bolt pattern. The tire has a load range D (1,220 lbs at 65 psi) and a max speed rating of 65 mph. The tire will have an overall diameter that is just under 1" larger than your current tire size. As long as your fender can handle the extra 1/2" of space then this is the better option.

This tire has a slightly better grip as the siping will do a better job as channels water away for that handling you are looking for. Attached are review videos for both products that you can reference.
