Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2018 Ram 2500 without Factory Pucks

Question:

What is a good 5 wheel for a 2018 ram 2500 short bed with out oem puck system ? I am considering adding the oem puck attachment to avoid having rail above deck . The 5th wheel camper i have ordered has a turning point pin box and a max weight of 10900.

Since your fifth-wheel trailer is equipped with the Lippert Turning Point pin box you can go with a fixed hitch. The extended pivot point on the Turning Point eliminates the need for a sliding hitch that would otherwise be needed on short bed trucks like yours to provide cab clearance during sharp turns.

For a hitch that will work great on your Ram and is compatible with the Turning Point I recommend the Curt A20 # C16140. This is an excellent hitch that features a fully articulating torsion head that allows for a smooth, quiet ride in your truck. Its interlocking 2-jaw system will also provide a really secure connection to the trailer which will result in less rattle. It has a 20,000 pound towing capacity.

For a base rail kit you can use the Curt Custom Installation Kit # C16427-204. Along with the needed above-bed base rails, this kit includes custom brackets that will use existing holes in the frame of your Ram so you don't have to drill into it for installation. I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.

We do not currently have a below-bed mount hitch available that will fit your truck and also work with the Turning Point pin box.

I am not sure if the OEM puck system can be added as an aftermarket application on your Ram but if you can do this through a Ram dealer, then I recommend going with the Curt A20 # C16044 for the hitch. This is the same as the above-mentioned hitch but with legs that will mount directly to the factory pucks on the 2018 Ram 2500.
