Center Point Suspension Compatibility With Shocks on Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
Sir/Ma’am, I have a 2019 Grand Design 230 RL tandem axle Fifth Wheel which originally comes with the Dexter “HD” Rubber Equalizer. Due to my living in Alaska and the questionable at times roads, I’m wanting to upgrade the equalizer and add shocks. Are the Center Point Suspension System and say the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock System compatible? If not Roadmaster then is there an alternative? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The Lippert Components Center Point Suspension Upgrade # LC1565391 may be compatible with shocks for your 2019 Grand Design but not the Roadmaster system because the Comfort Ride shock absorbers are designed to be used with the Comfort Ride slipper spring system.
To find out if the Center Point # LC1565391 is compatible with the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kit # LC281255 (for 2-3/8" axles rated for 3,500 lbs) or Shock Kit # LC281281 (for 3" axles rated for 5,200 to 7,000 lbs) on your 2019 Grand Design 230RL you will first need to know if your axles are one of the aforementioned sizes and have those ratings.
You will need to take the measurement in Figure 5 and add the 2" the Center Point adds. For reference when we measured these shocks the Figure 4A measurement we got was approximately 11-3/8".
Even if you find the shocks won't be able to fit your Grand Design the Center Point is a very good addition by itself and will improve your trailer's ride even without any additional suspension enhancement.
