Troubleshooting Brake Controller Install Wiring on Dakota that Lights Up Brake Lights All the Time

The plug on my 2004 dakota sxt have the the colored wires in different slots. When I plug it in my brake lights stay on. Can I get just the connector and rewire or your thoughts please, thanks

The standard brake controller wiring colors don't always match the colors of vehicle brake controller wiring. Since your truck isn't functioning proplery though it would seem like your setup needs to be rewired. It's odd that you are having this problem though as we've sold quite a few install harnesses for your 2004 Dodge Dakota like the part # 3020-P which matches what you have in your picture but we've not seen this specific problem. It makes me think maybe your truck was rewired at some point.

Best solution would be to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the pins on the harness of your truck and them cut the wires and rewire accordingly. The black wire should have voltage all the time, the red wire should have voltage only when the brakes are applied, the white wire is ground, and the blue wire is brake output to the trailer connector.
