Can a 2018 Ford Fiesta be Flat Towed with Low Mileage and What Parts are Needed to do so

Question:

I have a brand new 2018 Ford Fiesta that I want to flat tow. Can it be flat towed, what parts do I need and how many miles do I have to have on it before I can do so because I only have a couple hundred right now.

I took a look at the owner's manual for your 2018 Ford Fiesta and it does look like it can be flat towed but you need to have at least 1,000 miles on it (page 158) before doing so. Be sure to check your copy of the owner's manual to make sure it says the same thing and for any specific instructions for flat towing.

The parts you need to flat tow your Ford Fiesta include a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

If you have an ST model or a non-ST model with the EcoBoost then I recommend going with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2650 which pairs great with the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380. This tow bar and included safety cables are rated for up to 6,500 lbs.

For a non-ST model without the EcoBoost I recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit # RM-524438-4. The tow bar that I recommend for this base plate kit is the Falcon All Terrain # RM-522 with the safety cables # RM-643. Both of which are rated for up to 6,000 lbs.

Then for wiring the best kit is the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit allows you to install the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 or the Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 (if you have to disconnect your battery) to keep your battery from dying while you are flat towing.

I really like the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 braking system because after the initial installation it is very easy user friendly when it comes to setting up for flat towing. To ensure that the lights on your Fiesta operate properly with this system you also need to install the Relay Kit # RM-88400.

Most flat towing setups require a high-low adapter for the tow bar to remain level while towing. I have linked our selection of adapters for you to check out as well as an article that will help you determine which is the best one for your application.
