Determining if a Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier Will Clear the Spare Tire, 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a Curt hitch #13432 350 lb tongue weight. Do I need to use an extention to utilized this rack fully, or should have an extender to get it past the spare tire?

With any cargo carrier or accessory, I do not recommend using an extension because it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. Instead, I would go with the carrier that offers the most amount of clearance to help clear the spare tire as much as possible.

The carrier that extends the furthest is CURT Carrier, # C18152. It measures 14-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier as well.

You will need to measure your Jeep from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the spare to see how much extension you need from a cargo carrier.

I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. I need 10s of clearance from the center of the pin to clear the spare tire. Will the Rola 23X56 or the UWS Aluminum carrier 23X51 work with this vehicle? If not what other cargo carriers have 10s or more? Thanks for the help.

The Rola 59502 measures 12-7/8 inches from the hitch pin hole to the platform. The shank does raise the platform some, about 2 inches. The UWS03511 only measures 6 inches from pin hole to carrier platform. The Curt C18133 provides one of the longest fixed shanks with 14-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the carrier.
