Why Is My Trailer Only Rated for 45 MPH

Question:

Im considering buyiing a small utility trailer. The trailer has a capacity of 1060 lbs. Il be hauling less than 500 lbs The vendor recommends 45 mph max. Im assuming its because the tires and not the bearings too. If I replace the tires with high speed tires would I be ok with the bearings or is there such a thing as low speed bearings?

I would also assume that your tires are what limits your speed rather than bearings but I would call the manufacturer just to be sure. In most cases, the limiting factor in regards to speed restrictions are the tires not the bearing which is true for most trailers on the road today. I am not aware of a low speed bearing used on trailers.

If you have 4.80/4.00-8 tires on your trailer now then I recommend using the Kenda Loadstar K371 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10002 which have a 65 mph speed rating and a two year warranty. If these are not the correct size please let me know what is and I would be happy to make additional recommendations for you.
