Will a Bumper Support Bracket Interfere with Trailer Hitch Installation on a 1998 GMC Jimmy
Question:
on 1998 GMC Jimmy - online install instructions show bolting hitch directly against frame. On 1998 model, there is a bumper bracket fastened to the frame, such that the hitch would need to go outside the bumper bracket, adding about 1/4 inch to width of hitch. Earlier models do not have the bumper bracket, but same hitch is sold for model year 1998 and earlier. Will it really fit? your on-line video mentions this bumper bracket in showing how to install another brand of hitch, but CURT instructions do not mention it.

After reviewing the video that you referenced, which is for hitch # 90183, it appears that the upper connection point for that bumper support bracket will not interfere with the mounting of any of the available trailer hitches for the 1998 GMC Jimmy. In the event that your vehicle is different, it is permissible to relocate the upper support bracket connection point should it interfere with hitch installation.
If you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring you would need the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit, # 18252. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you.
