Can Any Cargo Carrier Be Used on a Trailer

Question:

I'm waiting for a response back from the trailer manufacturer as to the weight capacity of my bumper. I like the 20x47 model better as I still need to have room for a spare tire without covering up the rear lights on the trailer. Also, don't the make a 3 sided rubber adapter to clamp on to a 1 1/4" shank to make 2" to slide it into a 2" receiver. I've seen some cargo carriers that have that part come with it so it fits either a 1 1/4" or 2" receiver. I like the Curt 2" receiver that you show. Still waiting for a respons back from the trailer manufacture. I know I can stand on it and I weigh 165 lbs, but lets see what they say. Thanks again,

The 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63155 has a fixed shank so there won't be any reason that you couldn't use it on the rear of your travel trailer. If it had a folding shank then there would be issues as the added movement from any accessory on a trailer would create problems in the pivot point for the cargo carrier.

If you are looking for a trailer hitch to attach to your trailer's bumper then we do have options for you but all of them have a 2" receiver tube. For this, I recommend the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E-100 which offers a bolt-on completely drill free installation.

In order to use the Reese Cargo Carrier with the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver you will need a reducer like the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # HT02. With that being said it would be a much better solution to just purchase a fixed cargo carrier with a 2" shank like the 24x60 Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63153.

Please note that the trailer's bumper needs to be rated for the weight of the cargo carrier and all of its contents which you will need to confirm with the manufacturer.

I believe you are referring to a sleeve like part # SA3032. If this is the case then there are options available but none of them are made specifically for the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63155. That's not to say you could not make one work because the design is pretty standard but I don't have anything I can say will work 100% because we don't test them. The above sleeve would however be your best bet if this is the route you were to take. I have attached a list of the fixed cargo carries we offer that can be used with a 2" receiver tube for you as well.
