Trailer Hitch to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer w/1 Long Bed Ram or 1 Short Bed Ram with Gooseneck Hitches

Question:

The goose neck hitch in the 99 is a home made one. It has a channel welded in between the frame, with a ball nut backwelded to that channel. I have a piece of 1/4" smooth plate between the ball and the bed, creating a pinch mount for the plate. The safety chain hooks are welded to the 1/4" plate. Trailer will be a 2008 Keystone Fuzion toy hauler. Also looking at a 2007 Jaycon Recon.

The only part of this that really complicates things is that the 2010 Ram 2500 is a short bed. Otherwise the Demco Recon # DM8550045 would be the ideal solution. Do you happen to know the brand of gooseneck hitch in your 1999 Ram 2500? If it happens to be a B&W gooseneck hitch then you could use the Companion slider # BWRVK3400 and you'd just need to put a B&W gooseneck hitch in the 2010 Ram using # BWGNRK1313.

The short bed truck is going to require a slider hitch in order for you to make tight turns without the trailer hitting the truck cab. If you can tell me the brand gooseneck hitch in the 1999 Ram I can figure out if this is feasible.

Thank you for the information. So looking at the Fuzion it appears it has a tapered nose or cutouts at the front cap meaning that it can be towed with a short bed truck making it less likely there will be contact between the truck and trailer when making tight turns. The Jayco trailer does not have this feature so I would stick with the Fuzion. Since your 1999 Ram already has the gooseneck ball you would just need to add a gooseneck hitch to the 2010 Ram 2500 using # BWGNRK1313. That will allow you to use the Demco Recon # DM8550045 to tow the trailer. The Recon is height adjustable at 15-1/2", 17-1/4", or 18" so the different heights of the trucks won't be as much of an issue as it could be. You should also be able to bolt the pin box higher or lower on its mounting wings for even more adjustability.
