Troubleshooting License Plate Light Not Working with New Optronics Tail Light Assembly
Question:
My trailer A 1974 Frolic only has two wires at the rear lights, green and red. The green is what my running and marker lights are on and the red is my flasher. I wire the green RVSTL61 wire to the green on the trailer and the black on the RVSTL61 to the red on the trailer. The white on the RVSTL61 goes to one of the mounting screws for a ground in the same manner as the rest of the lights on the trailer. However, when I do this, there is no license plate light until I turn on the blinker. Once I turn on the blinker, the license plate light flashes, but none of the red LEDs flash. How do I wire the light correctly?

Expert Reply:
On the Optronics Low Profile RV Tail Light # RVSTL61 the black wire is for the tail/running lights and the green wire is for the stop/turn signal lights. The white wire as you mentioned just needs to be grounded to the trailer frame. With this in mind it sounds like you just have the wires crossed on the light assembly. You will want to connect the green wire from the Optronics light to the red wire on your trailer. The black wire from the light will go to the green light on the trailer.
This should resolve the issue you are having.
