Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Output on 2016 Dodge 4500
Question:
2016 Dodge 4500 Trailer Brake Signal Problem. I have no brakes on a trailer that I know the brakes are good and have checked them using another truck. On the Blue Wire, Brake Signal Terminal I am only getting a voltage of .9 - 1.2v consistently. At Idle, Engine off key on, anytime. Pressing the manual override or by pressing the brake pedal. all other trailer connector pin connections are ok. what do I check next to diagnose this problem?

On your 2016 Ram 4500, the brake output is not functioning correctly. Since you have already checked the 5 o'clock pin on your 7-way, the next step is to check the output on the blue wire of your brake controller. If you have the Prodigy P3 # 90195, I've attached the installation details which will outline how to check the output in the controller using the Menu/Help/TroubleShoot. If you don't have this controller then you will need to cut the blue wire about 6 inches from the unit and check the output on the blue wire when using the manual override. Because you are not moving the proportional controller will not send power without using the manual override. If you don't have correct power at that location, you will need to replace the controller. However, if you do have the correct output when using the manual override, then you will need to run a new wire like # 10-1-1 sold by the foot from that location back to your 7-way.
You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or a multimeter like # PT89ZR to run this test.
