Weight Distribution System for a Triton UT16 Aluminum Trailer

Question:

I have Triton UT16 aluminum trailer, GWT 5000 lbs. The tongue is a straight section, 16” long, 2.5” wide and 4.5” tall. The 16” length is from the center of the ball to where the angles begin. Can the spring bar lift brackets be attached to this straight section or is there a Suitable WD hitch with spring bars longer than 16”?

Before you begin choosing a weight distribution system you would need to contact the trailer manufacturer to make sure this is allowed as aluminum frame trailers can be limited in this application. The frame brackets for a weight distribution system will attach to the angled side rails, not the straight tongue. In order to make sure you select the correct system for you needs you will want to tally the total tongue weight which is the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

If your trailer has a gross trailer weight (GTW) of 5,000 lb then odds are your total tongue weight is between 500 lbs - 750 lbs which means the Reese Weight Distribution Kit part # RP67509 is likely what you need. The spare tire and jack will likely need to be moved further back away from the coupler in order to clear the spring bars.

The only other item you need to make the Reese work is a hitch ball like part # A-90 for 2" or part # 19286 for 2-5/16". I have attached a review video of the weight distribution system for you as well.
