Will an ST205/75-14 Load Range D have Higher Ply Rating and Help with Sway Compared to Load Range C

Question:

If you go from a ST205/75R14 - C to a ST205/75R14-D , you are going from a 6 ply side wall to a 8 ply side wall . will it not help with sway ? I understand it wont do anything for load capacity.

In trailer tire size ST205/75-14 a load range C, such as # TR20514, will have a 6 ply rating and a load range D, such as # AM10235, will have an 8 ply rating. The higher the ply rating the stronger the tire is all around. But yes that would include the sidewall. It may help somewhat with sway but it will likely not be enough to be noticeable. The load range D tires will have a higher capacity than load range C in the same size but will not increase the capacity of the trailer as a whole.

If you are having sway problems the best solution is a weight distribution system that includes sway control. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

If you can give me even an estimate of the total tongue weight I will be happy to make some recommendations for you. In the meantime I have included some links on determining tongue weight and weight distribution and sway control for you.
