Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for Trailer with 350-400 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Have small travel trailer, 16, tongue weight 350-400 lbs. Please recommend a weight distribution system and compatible anti sway system. I would like to avoid having to weld a steel plate for the ball reciever on the anti sway unit. Towing with 2004 Toyota 4 runner with factory tow package. Just ordered the Tekensha Primus IQ brake controller from you guys. Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a loaded tongue weight of 350 to 400 lbs that best weight distribution with sway control is the Strait-Line system part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range of 200-600 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts. There would be no welding needed to install this kit either.

For a 2 inch ball you'd then want the part # A-90.
