Bed Tonneau Cover for 2014 Ram 2500 With 6-1/2 Bed and Gooseneck Hitch
Question:
Staff, I need help choosing a bed cover for our 2014 Ram 2500 with gooseneck hitch 6.5ft bed with no Ram Box. No current installed bed rails. Heres my thoughts, concerns, desires, needs. 1. Truck is always outside in Michigan weather meaning rain, sun, snow, heavy snow. Dont want a cover that will fade. Need a cover that will hold up to some snow buildup on the cover. Need cover to provide protection to items in bed without getting wet. 2. Need the cover to open far enough forward to allow access and use of the gooseneck hitch for horse trailer. Cover can not get in the way. The cover needs to be secured in forward position while driving with trailer attached. 3. Needs to be secure. 4. Open from back is main need. If can open from front..bonus 5. Love the idea of the retractable covers, just concerned about water freezing in the tracks during thaws and freezing periods and not allowing the system to open or work. Worried about durability of the sliders. Thanks

Thanks for the thoughtful question and I'll address those concerns to find the best option.
Since you did mention you need the tonneau cover to open enough to use your gooseneck hitch and also needed security you will need to go with a retractable tonneau cover on your 2014 Ram 2500 because a folding or soft cover simply is not going to give you both of those necessities or be as durable as the higher-quality retractable covers.
Since all retractable tonneaus will leave the back of the truck open your other main concern was understandably the weather.
With all of this in mind the best option for your '14 Ram 2500 is the RetraxONE MX Hard Tonneau Cover # RT60232. This is a highly durable cover made out of what is called Lexan, a thermoplastic that is not only UV treated but also designed to withstand temperatures as low as 50 degrees below zero.
It does have weather-strip to help keep the moisture away from the parts of the tonneau that move, but it is possible there will be some ice build-up occasionally. Having said that, Retrax is in North Dakota and the covers are made there so they will have had similar weather experiences as you have in Michigan though it is recommended you wipe the snow off the cover when possible.
