Can the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 be Used for a 1995 National RV Dolphin and a 2018 Ford Edge

Question:

Does it matter what year the motorhome is to use this system We will be flat towing a 2018 Ford Edge SE behind a 1995 National RV Dolphin that has red tail lights. Will the stay in play system work with this setup and what about turn lights and brake lights on the towed vehicle? Do I need the wiring kit with the diodes as well?

The SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 will actually work just fine with your 1995 National RV Dolphin. It uses an inertia sensor and the brake light signal from your motorhome to activate the brakes on your 2018 Ford Edge.

You will need to install wiring for the brake lights on your Edge as well. I recommend the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which comes with a 6-Wire - to- 7-Wire adapter. You can easily install the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 which this system so that disconnecting your battery is much easier.

A complete flat towing system includes a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
