The brake controller wiring for a 2001 GMC Sierra truck will utilize a wiring harness like # 3025-P. If you have a factory 7-way, there is no further wiring needed for that application as you can see in the attached video.
If you do not have a factory 7-way, then you will need to use that wiring harness # 3025-P and also add a 7-way using # PK11898 if there is a bundle of wires above the spare tire. If there is a round plastic harness on the wires, then you will use the 7 way # 30955. I've attached a photo of the two options to assist. We do not have a video of this installation, but we do have an article with photos to walk you through the installation.
We do have a very similar installation using the # ETBC7 kit, which uses a 4-way connector and hardwires the other connections. I've attached that video to assist. If you don't have the plastic connection above your spare tire, this kit is my recommendation.
If you have the bundle of wires, the yellow wire is the left turn and brakes, dark green wire is the right turn and brakes, brown wire is for the taillights, and white is the ground. Often if the loom is cut back, two more wires will be found. The light blue wire provides a lead for a camper shell brake light. The other, a light green wire, is for the reverse lights.
