Is Trailer Tire Weight Capacity per Tire or Per Axle
Question:
Can my trailer with a single 3500 lb axle and a GVWR of 2995. It has a tire loading information: ST205/75R15 cold tire pressure of 50psi and a cargo capacity of 1635lbs. My question is does that tire rating mean just one tire or total of both tires? And also I wanted to see with this information is my trailer ok to carry a 3000 lb pallet of sod?

Expert Reply:
Tire weight ratings are for each tire individually and not for the axle. So if you have a tire with a capacity of 1,635 lbs that means that for the axle the tire weight rating is 3,270 lb. Based on that you'd have enough capacity for a pallet of sod that weighs 3,000 lb.
