Can Tow Dolly be Backed up With Vehicle Installed On it

we were told not to back our trailer up is this correct?

You should not reverse a tow dolly with a vehicle installed on it. You'll most likely damage the vehicle. You said trailer though and referenced a dolly so I am assuming that is what you are asking about. There are circumstances where it's not wise to back up a trailer either like if a weight distribution system is connected but I do not believe that's what you are asking about.
