Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2007 Dodge Caliber

Question:

Im looking for a trailer hitch for my 2007 Dodge Caliber R/T 2.4L Engine and all I can find is a Class I hitch. Do they make any other classes for my car? The class I will work but obviously the stronger the better. Thank you!

All of the available trailer hitches for your 2007 Dodge Caliber are Class I model hitches. Trailer hitch manufacturers will typically try to match the rating/capacity of a hitch to the particular vehicle it is designed to fit. This is likely why there aren't any higher class hitches available for your Dodge Caliber, as the vehicle itself does not have the capacity that a higher class unit would provide. I took a look at the online owner's manual for your vehicle and it does state that the 2.4L model has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, and this is only if it is equipped with the factory trailer tow package. Otherwise the maximum trailer weight is 1,000 pounds even with the 2.4L engine. You will always be limited by a setup's weakest component. So even if there was a higher-rated trailer hitch available for your vehicle, you would still be limited by the vehicle's lower capacity.

For your Dodge Caliber I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24769. This custom hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. I have attached the written instructions that you can also check out.
