Replacement Brake Controller that Was Wired Backwards and Shorted Out

Question:

Hi, I was changing the battery on my trailer and accidentally conected the wires backwards. Then trailer breakaway switch popped out and smoked for a second. I cannot get the switch to reset as well as the brake controller in my truck is now flashing SH even when the trailer is completely disconnected. Did I fry the controller?

It looks like you damaged the controller based on what you described and what it's showing on the display in your picture. It would be time to replace it.
