3-Bike Rack for Use on 2017 Honda CR-V Touring

Question:

I have a 2017 Honda CR-V touring model with a spoiler. I’m trying to decide between the Hollywood Over the Top and the Saris Bones 3 or perhaps the Superbones. I prefer the Saris, but on their site it is not listed as a fit for my vehicle. I believe I read one of your expert answers that the Bones 3 would fit a CR-V, although I can’t remember the year or model. My question is, exactly why is the Bones not listed as compatible with the CR-V? I wrote Saris but have not heard back. I’m guessing it’s because the top straps put too much pressure on the plastic/polycarbonate spoiler. Another possible reason would be interference with the rear wiper. However, I could live without the rear wiper when hauling my bike. But I don’t know about the pressure put on the spoiler. Have you had experience with racks that strap over a non metal spoiler, and under what circumstances is that hookup not suggested. Specifically, would you recommend putting the Bones 3 or the SuperBones on my vehichle? Thanks so much for your help.

No plastic roofline spoilers are meant to have any weight on them so we do not recommend using a bike rack that will apply any such pressure on this vehicle feature. You are correct that the Saris Bones racks are not a recommended fit on the 2017 Honda CR-V Touring model.

The best option on your specific vehicle is indeed the 3-bike Hollywood Racks # HRF2-3, or the 2-bike version # HRF2. Both racks feature a unique arched frame design that protects your spoiler from potential damage from the pressure of the rack's mounting straps. If you like you can add a security strap # TH533 to help protect the rack from theft, and a cable lock # e98891 to secure your bikes to the rack. If you'll be transporting a woman's bike or any other type without a top frame tube you can add an adapter bar # HRBA-PRO.

Please note that you rear wiper will automatically engage when reversing during inclement weather so you'll want to pull the fuse to prevent operation or avoid use of the rack when it is raining.
