Recommended Parts to Create More Comfortable Ride with 1997 Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis

Question:

How come I cannot find a front sway bar for my 1997 Rexhall Aerbus with the Ford F53 chassis and Ford 460 V-8? I can find Rear sway bars, and steering stabilizers but no front sway bars, in addition should I get Front helper sumi springs or air bags for the front. There are Firestone air bags in the rear. Probably should replace them due to age of RV, although the RV has been under cover and only has 28,000 miles on it.

We do have a variety of products that will help to stabilize your 1997 Rexhall Aerbus built on the F-53 chassis, however as you mentioned there is not a front sway bar available that is designed to fit.

Adding a steering stabilizer to your RV will go a long way towards reducing a lot of the issues you might be having on the road. It mounts between the steering mechanism and chassis to create a tight connection that will continuously work to minimize any wander as well as correct oversteering. Even with a front sway bar adding this will create a noticeable difference

Then for a rear sway bar I recommend the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-143 as long as your coach is less than 34 feet long. A rear sway bar is going to provide more benefit when compared to a front axle unit anyway so only being able to add this one to your chassis should not be an issue. This will greatly minimize your sway and improve the overall stability of the vehicle during travel.

These parts will do a great job of upgrading the driving experience with your motorhome. I recommend starting with these components to see how everything handles with them installed. If you find you still need a bit more stability then adding air bags like the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 # AL88140 for the front axle and # AL88208 for the rear (if you find the existing bags need to be replaced) will work great. There is not currently a Firestone kit available that is confirmed to fit the rear axle of your chassis.
