Recommended Trailer Hitch for Honda 2018 CR-V

Question:

I have a new 2018 CRV and the towing specs from Honda is 1500 Lb. I want the hitch strictly to handle a bike rack. The only recommended hitches for this vehicle are Class II and Class III. I am concerned the warranty on the power train will be voided if the hitch exceeds the rated towing capacity. Is there no class I hitch available for the CRV?

There is no Class I, 1-1/4" hitch available for a 2018 Honda CR-V and there is no reason for you to need one as opposed to the much, much better option of the Class III, 2" Draw-Tite # 76128.

No trailer hitch, of any class, will void the warranty on your new CR-V; you are protected by what is called the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act which states, in part, that unless the installation or the part itself caused a problem then the warranty cannot be voided.

I do recommend looking this up on your own, but the fact is no matter what the capacity of the hitch is, your warranty will not be voided. Even if there were a Class I hitch available you would be looking at a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs which would also be more than the 1,500 lb towing limit of the CR-V.

Your best option, by far, is going to be the Class III Draw-Tite # 76128, which will be a complete bolt-on installation so no drilling into your Honda's frame will be required. Should you be in the market for a new bike rack let me know if there are any specific features you would want and I'll be happy to recommend the best options for you.
