No Trailer Brakes with Brake Pedal on the Draw-Tite Activator IV Part # 5504

Question:

Draw tite activator in a 95 chevy 3/4 ton suburban. Red light only lights up when both brake pedal and manual override is pressed. Does not light up when brake pedal alone is pushed. And the red wire is connected to white brake wire. White wire has solid current. Red wire at back of brake controller has changing current. I tried to move trailer while one foot on brake pedal and manual override button pushed and trailer brakes worked. But do not worl when brake pedal alone is pushed.

It sounds like you have attached the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller part # 5504 to the wrong stop light switch. The red wire on the back of the controller needs to be attached to the cold side of the brake pedal which is the wire that only has power while the brake pedal is depressed. You can find this wire using a circuit tester like part # ALL640595.
