Longer Straps Compatible with Thule Double Track 990XT

Question:

We have a Thule Double Track 990XT and the straps to hold the wheel is too short not a fat bike tire but larger than a regular mountain bike tire. Are there longer straps available for this? Or an adaptor of some sort? Thank you!

The Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack TH990XT is only compatible with tire widths up to 3 inches. The replacement strap # 753-3001 is 10-1/2" long x 13/16" wide. For a wider tire that still fits in the wheel tray you may need to customize something using an additional strap as there is not a compatible adapter from Thule.

I just installed the following replacement straps on my Thule 990XT carrier to accomodate my 27.5 plus mountain bike tires and they fit perfectly straight out of the box. Thule 8537006 SideArm Replacement Wheel Strap

@BrianD I had the same issue. My bike is a 27.5+ as well. The replacement strap (853-7006) is approximately 2.5 inches longer than the stock one. Even though the stock strap has a circular holder piece and the replacement has a squareone it fits in the tire holder fine. I also found that if you remove the plastic rim holder from the strap it creates a bit more length. Might wanna try that as well.

@PaulT Hi Paul - thanks for this option. I also have a 27.5 mountain bike and am wondering if this set-up has still been working for you? Was replacing the strap a simple process? Thanks!
