Troubleshooting Arm on Blue Ox Patriot Braking System that Does Not Retract After Setup

Question:

We have been using our Blue Ox break controller for several years. When hooking up today we had a issue. After we pushed set up, the break arm extended like it always does 1st and 2nd time it retracted as usual, but on the 3rd time it extended as usual but did not retract. This has never happened before, what am I doing wrong?

I spoke with my contact at Blue Ox regarding the issue you are having with your Patriot III Braking System # BLU37TR. He said to try powering off/unplugging the system and then waiting a bit before powering it back on. Then push the setup button again to see if the issue is resolved. The system may just need to be reset.

If the problem persists, make sure the push pads are making good contact with the drivers seat and the brake unit is resting against it (without any actual pressure from the seat). Also ensure that the claw is securely attached to the brake pedal.

Please let me know if this does not resolve the issue and I will be happy to look into this further.

My power does not come on when I plug my Patriot 2 into the cigarette lighter

Do you by chance have to disconnect the battery on your vehicle for flat towing? If so, you'd need to add the 12V Outlet Kit # RM-9332 to provide proper power to the unit. Let me know if that's not the case and we can go from there.

@ChrisR I’m having the same issue. Arm is extended and now it won’t power up even if it’s plugged in? It seems dead.

@TimQ Is the battery in your towed vehicle dead? If we can ensure that the Patriot 2 is getting power then that will help us to determine if we need to take a closer look at the Patriot 2.
