If you have an interior rail to attach to, you could uses the Rack'Em Double Barrel Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist w/ Chain - 200 lbs # RA-27C. The only thing to consider with this is that the unit will be either right in front of or behind your horses
Most horse trailers utilize an enclosed trailer ramp spring like the Enclosed Trailer Ramp Spring - Dual Spring, 81" Wide # ERS120D81. These are more like garage door springs, and use cables to lower and raise the ramp. It is recommended to have a garage door tech help with the tension on these style springs to avoid injury.
