How Does Trailer Loading Affect Sway in Arctic Wolf 5th Wheel

Question:

I have a 2018 arctic wolf with the lippert turning point that I pull with a 2011 ram 2500 with a curt a16 and the custom wedge. Twice so far I have had the trailer start to sway very violently once while making a slight corner at 65 and again when going over a road to bridge transition.iv checked the wedge to make sure its tight checked all my trailer wheel luggs and everything else I could think of.its really to the point it makes me nervous to pull.any help would be greatly appreciated

If you have noticeable sway from your Arctic Wolf 5th wheel and you cannot find anything wrong in the hitch, pin box, wedge, wheels or suspension on the trailer I recommend making sure that your specific loading of the trailer provides enough pin weight at the hitch.

The optimal range for 5th wheel pin weight is 15 to 20% of the loaded trailer's gross weight. I suggest confirming both the gross weight and pin weight of the loaded trailer when it is all set for the road. I suggest aiming for 20% pin weight.

Too little pin weight (or too little tongue weight in a bumper-pull trailer) can allow rear-end sway to start, and once it starts it tends to want to keep going, like the way a mechanical grandfather clock's pendulum swings back and forth.

I suspect that loading your trailer to be heavier at the hitch (and lighter at the rear) will reduce the tendency for sway.
