Will the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 Fit on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a Spare tire

Question:

I understand that the Kuat Pivot will not work with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon using the shorter hitch as the locking lever hits the spare tire, however is this an issue with the Yakima Backswing?

It really depends on the location of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch. A trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # DT78MR, which is a confirmed fit for your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, sticks out significantly farther than OEM trailer hitches do so it would be less likely of an issue.

I did measure the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 and found that from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the arm assembly measured 8-1/2" while that same measurement to the handle was 11-3/4". I also measured how tall the handle is when compared to the top of the inside of your receiver and found that to be about 12-1/4".

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in the attached review video for the BackSwing is the same one in the attached installation video for the Draw-Tite trailer hitch. If you don't think that your current trailer hitch (if you have one) sits far enough out you can replace it with the Draw-Tite option and you should be good to go.

When we installed that hitch we found that from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the tire was 6". Since the arm assembly of the BackSwing is 2-1/2" further out than that this is an excellent combination.
