2016 Honda Odyssey Trailer Towing Capacity
Question:
So reading the the last answer you gave, with all the attachments put on, I still shouldnt exceed the 3500 pound limit. What would going over 3500 do.

The answer you referenced does note that when a hitch has a higher towing capacity that the vehicle it is installed on the lower rating of the vehicle still applies. It is much like the 'weakest link in the chain' scenario; the lowest-rated item in a towing system determines overall capacity for the entire system.
The online owner's manual for the 2016 Odyssey indicates on page 93 what the allowable trailer weight is based on the number of occupants in the vehicle. All weight counts, so more passengers in the car means lower allowable trailer weight. The manual also indicates that a transmission cooler like # D13503 should be installed for any towing to help reduce thermal stress on the transmission.
Exceeding a vehicle's towing capacity can cause early wear or even failure of components. It is always best to use a tow vehicle that has a higher capacity than the actual trailer load you want to tow.
