The the CURT Roof Mounted Cargo Basket, # C18115, should work great on the factory cross bars on your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, provided you check the factory roof weight rating and the dimensions for mounting the basket.
The weight limit for your factory bars is 150 lbs including the weight of the basket. The bars on your Cherokee will need to be spaced at least 15 inches apart and can be no more than 3 inches high or wide, measure to be sure.
If your Cherokee does not have factory crossbars, you will need the Yakima Control Tower Roof Rack to attach the cargo basket, which consists of the following part numbers, # Y00408, 2 each # Y00222, # Y00148 and # Y03536. These parts connect to the factory tracks installed on the roof of the Grand Cherokee.
