Recommended etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2018 Subaru Forester
Question:
I have a 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5 and want to equip it with a hitch and hitch-mounted bike rack. What part would you suggest for the hitch and would I need a towing hitch wire harness? Also how much does the hitch part cost on average? I already have a few quotes for installation.

For your 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5, I recommend the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98839. This hitch is made by Curt Manufacturing for us and has the really nice matte powder coat finish. It is an easy installation that will take a novice about 60 minutes and a professional about 30 minutes. It does require slightly lowering your exhaust and enlarging holes for this installation as well as removing the heat shield.
For your wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 which installs to the factory harness behind the trim panel on the driver's side in the cargo area or in the spare tire compartment. Once you've connected the harness, insert the provided fuse into the inline fuse holder.
Then for a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10035B which is adjustable and has a really nice stow away feature to protect your shins when not in use. I recommend using a hitch lock like # BX8858 to secure your investment.
