Timbren 3.5K Axle-Less System with 4 Inch Lift and Offroad Tires and Matching Hubs and Brakes

Question:

Hi there. I have a utility trailer that Im going to convert to an off-road trailer. Im using a 2018 Toyota 4Runner to tow it with. Id like to equip it with 33inch tires, and it would be ideal if the wheel had the same bolt pattern as the 4Runner. Ive been looking at the 3,500 lbs systems with the 4inch lift. Does that sound like the right system? The trailer will eventually hold portable kitchen, water tank, propane tanks, extra batteries, rack with a roof-top tent, 2 kayaks, and a bike rack with up to 4 mountain bikes plus other equipment. Do I need to go beefier than the 3,500 lbs system? What would I need for a complete replacement for the existing axle/wheels? Im guessing electric brakes etc. It would be super helpful if you could suggest all the parts and the part numbers so I could just place the order. Thanks a lot in advance.

Considering the size tires you are wanting to put on the trailer you would need to go with at least a 3,500 pound Timbren Axle-Less system such as # ASR35HDS02. The hub and drum assembly for this system is # 8-201-9UC3-EZ.

For the brake assemblies use set # AKEBRK-7-SA. These are self-adjusting brakes, one left and one right.

You will likely not be able to match up the bolt pattern between the trailer wheels and the Toyota wheels. Vehicle wheels also often have an offset whereas trailer wheels do not. Another issue to think about is that vehicle tires should not be used on a trailer and trailer tires should not be used on a vehicle.

Trailer tires are designed with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load. They are also meant to be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire in order to reach their rated capacity. If they are underinflated that thick sidewall generates excessive heat which leads to tire failure.

I recommend going with 16 inch trailer tires, specifically ST235/85-16 tires because that will get you to about a 32 inch diameter. We have several tire and wheel combos with this tire size and a bolt pattern that fits the hub and drum. For a plain Jane white steel wheel we have # AM32764. For some slick aluminum wheels we have # AM32734. And for a tough looking black wheel we have # AM35010.
