Options to Carry Mobility Scooter With 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Question:
I am looking for the easiest way to transport my Mobility Scooter with my PT Cruiser. Do you have any suggestions. I do not have a hitch yet. They make carriers that fit close to the car but I dont know if I can use one.

I am glad to help you find the most effective way to transport your mobility scooter with your 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24759 is one of our most durable hitch receivers. Although this hitch has a 200 pound tongue weight rating and a 2000 pound towing capacity, check your vehicle's owners manual to ensure you will not exceed your vehicle's capacity. The towing capacity may also be found on the face inside the driver’s door.
If your scooter weighs less than 123 lbs I recommend the Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier w/ 60" Ramp - 2" Hitch - 500 lbs # FHG69ZR. The only restriction other than the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is the dimensions of the scooter. The interior carrier dimensions are 47" long x 27-1/2" wide x 7" tall, so as long as your mobility scooter will fit, it will work really nicely. I recommend the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 to secure your scooter to the carrier.
If your scooter weighs more than 123 lbs or if the PT Cruiser tongue weight capacity is less than 200 pounds the safest option is to use a trailer to transport your scooter.
If you don't have a trailer, I recommend a trailer like the Detail K2 Mighty Multi Utility Trailer # K2MMT4X6. The rear tailgate can be locked upright to hold your cargo in or folded down for use as a ramp. The coupler on this trailer requires a 1-7/8" hitch ball # 19256 and a ball mount w/ pin and clip # 3594. To power the lights on this trailer, you will want a wiring harness like the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55532.
If a cargo carrier or a trailer is not an option for you on your PT Cruiser, if you have larger vehicle with a higher towing capacity to transport your mobility scooter in can provide you better and safer options. If that is the case, I can recommend a hitch with a higher weight rating so you can use the Flint Hill Goods # FHG69ZR.
Be sure to contact me back you would like to look into more options.
