Reverse Light Connection to Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7

Question:

I watched the trailer brake controller video of 1994 c/k install , what i didn,t see or missed was where the backup lights were hooked up , It wasnt from the 4 way plug already on truck cause it would have to be a 5 way flat. I need the backup lights for the solinoid on my ranger boat trailer which has surge brakes. when the backup lights come on it activates solinoid to keep fluid from going to brakes allowing me to backup. Would like to know to use the ETBC7 kit and hook up backup lights also Thanks

The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 will work well for your 1994 Chevy C/K model truck. The video as you stated doesn't show that reverse light connection, and actually most of our videos don't show that feature. I'm happy to help walk you through that connection and I've also attached an article to assist.

The purple wire on the 7-way will connect to another extension of wire from the kit to get you to the driver's or passenger side tail light. Behind that tail light, you will see the power wire that goes to the reverse light bulb. Using the quick splice connection, you will connect that reverse light power to that purple wire on the 7-way. This will allow the power signal from your reverse lights to activate that corresponding pin that will connect to your trailer electric lockout solenoid.

If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend a proportional controller. The most popular is the Prodigy P3 # 90195 due to its features, but if you want to save cost and don't need all the features, then the Primus IQ # TK90160 is what I recommend for a cost efficient option.
