Troubleshoot Brake Controller Install Breakaway Kit was Removed and Controller Stopped Working

Question:

Order number 106714933. 2018 GMC Sierra 1500. Primus IQ 90160. After installation controller did not find the electric brakes. Lights and Turn Signals work. The problem may be trailer wiring since it had a break away set up at one time but the cable to break away switch was cut when I purchased the trailer and I just removed the battery. Electric brakes were working on my old pickup with a time delay controller, at least I think they were. It is a twin axle utility trailer with a load capacity of 7000 pounds. Primary use is moving timbre to a mill. Can you provide ideas on where I should start my trouble shooting? My thought is to check trailer wiring to make sure brakes are working but not to sure how to do that.

The presense of a breakaway kit shouldn't affect the function of a brake controller unless the wiring where the breakaway kit attaches to the brake output circuit is somehow damaged. You might check to see where the wiring from the breakaway kit attached to the trailer wiring to see if there is damage there and fix as needed.

I attached a help article on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out as well.
