Comparing the Dexstar # AM20538DX and Taskmaster # 550550SM1 Wheels

Question:

How does the Dexstar AM20538DX listed at $ compare with the Taskmaster #550550SM1 listed at $? Does the triple coating process on the Taskmaster justify the extra cost? Have you had more trouble with the Dexter corroding over time? Is the Taskmaster made in the USA? Is the Taskmaster a superior product with the extra feature on the holes?

Let me preface the answer by saying that both the Dexstar # AM20538DX and the Taskmaster # TA93ZR are great products and I wouldn't shy away from recommending either one of them.

When it comes to a comparison the Taskmaster does has the does have the zinc phosphate bath as part of the coating process and the beveled stud holes to contribute to the quality of the product. Another thing to note is that the Taskmaster has a weight capacity of 1,820 lbs as opposed to the 2,150 lbs of the Dexstar. The Taskmaster wheel is not manufactured in the USA.

We haven't had problems with the Dexstar corroding any quicker than what would be normal over time so that isn't an issue.

Aside from the differences noted above, another driving force when it comes to pricing is how popular an item is. As you can tell from the customer reviews, the Taskmaster wheel is much more popular than the Dexstar wheel and people like to talk about it.

If you are looking for best quality then Taskmaster is the way to go, but if you aren't really interested in the extra features you would still be happy with the performance of the Dexstar option.
