Will Higher Tongue Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch Increase Tongue Weight of 2016 Outback Wagon
Question:
Hello I already have this hitch installed on my 2016 Subaru Outback. Subaru lists the maximum tongue weight for this vehicle as 200lbs, however this hitch lists the maximum tongue weight as 600lbs. I understand that this hitch does not mount to the body the same way as the OEM hitch setup. Does this increase the max TW? Which number is correct for max TW? Thanks!

Any time you are dealing with a weight capacity you are always limited by your lowest rated component. Trailer hitch manufacturers test the strengths of their products separate from the vehicles which is why the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13206 has a 600 lb TW capacity that is well over the TW capacity of your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon.
Since your Outback Wagon has a lower TW capacity of 200 lbs that is what you will be limited by and what you need to stay under to safely use the trailer hitch with your vehicle.
