Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with Dry Weight 6,350 lb

Question:

My trailer is 6,350 lbs dry. Would I be ok buying a WD and Sway system based on 900 lb tongue weight? Is shooting too high an issue or do you need to be exact? I.E. What if I used a WD and sway system that was meant for a 10,000 lb trailer?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. If you go too high you will end up with a very harsh ride quality.

Based on the dry weight of your trailer being 6,350 lbs the Reese Strait Line kit part # RP66084 would be your best solution as it has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and features best sway control that fights sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
