Trailer Hitch Availability and Bike Rack Compatibility for 2017 VW Golf Alltrack
Question:
Hello I purchased and installed the trailer hitch receiver, # 24949, Unfortunately it does not fit with my Thule bike rack that holds 3 bikes. What rack do you recommend that fits the hitch receiver I installed? I have 3 bikes...

Expert Reply:
Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24949, which is one of the confirmed hitch fits on your 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, can only be used with a compatible Class I rack of 2-bike capacity. Higher-capacity racks would be too heavy for this hitch and would exert too much stress on the hitch tube. This and all other Class I hitches are limited to a 2-bike carrying capacity.
There is a Class I-compatible Thule rack, the Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR, that will work in your Class I hitch, and this rack also fits 2-inch hitches made for your car like the EcoHitch # 306-X7315. In a 2-inch hitch you can use the full 4-bike capacity but in your Class I hitch only 2 bikes. This and all other Class I racks are shown on the linked page.
