2018 Subaru Outback Clearance and Warranty With Aftermarket Trailer Hitch Installation

Question:

The pictures customers have posted make the trailer hang down far. Has anyone noticed a difference substantially, I realize some clearance will be lost in the clearance levels? Also, I asked the dealer about aftermarket trailer installations, they said it voids the warranty if anything on the car is cut into i.e. the bumper facia? Just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

When you install an aftermarket part on your vehicle like a trailer hitch in this case, you are protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. This act states, in part, that unless the installation and the part caused a problem then the warranty cannot be voided. I recommend looking it up online.

Trimming a bumper fascia for example does not cause any problem as it is simply cosmetic. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75673 is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon. On your vehicle the bottom of the receiver will sit about 12-1/2 inches off the ground giving you plenty of clearance for a bike rack, ball mount, or other accessory. This install only requires trimming the heat shield where the hitch will protect in its place so it will not cause any problem that will void the warranty.

I've attached the installation video of this hitch receiver to assist.

If you will be towing with this hitch, I recommend the wiring harness # 118467 to add a 4 way flat and the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10035B. This will give you the two hitch ball sizes of 2 inch and 1-7/8 inch diameter common with many trailers. It also has a nice stowable option to protect your shins when not in use and has a clean look. You may also be interested in a hitch lock like # e98882 to protect your ball mount or other accessories you've invested in.
