Wiring Functions for 6-Way Square Connector on a 1990 Coleman Pop-Up Camper
Question:
I just bought a used old 1990 Coleman camper. It came with a 6 pin square connector on it. My vehicle has a 4 pin flat connector that I installed through my brake lights. I am having difficulty figuring out how to get the lights to work on it. I also bought the adapter for 4 flat to 6 square, but found out that is for Jaycos only. So it does not match up. I cannot find a wiring diagram online thats specific for the Coleman camper to show me which wire controls what on the camper. Id be happy to take off the 6 square and put on the 4 flat male. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think I might be about to blow your mind!
Blue wire = electric brakes
White wire = ground
Green wire = right turn signal/brake lights
Brown = tail/running lights
Red = reverse lights
Yellow = left turn and brake lights
Some had a separate 2-pin connector with a black wire for 12 volt power and white wire for ground.
If you find this to be inaccurate then the easiest way to determine the wire functions on the trailer side is to use a separate 12 volt battery and apply power to each of the wires on that 6-Way connector and see what lights up. You might also be able to pull out a tail light assembly to see if the wire colors on it match the wires at the connector but there is no guarantee that the wire is the same from the front to the back unless you can physically see it.
To replace the connector on the trailer I recommend going with a 7-Way RV-style connector such as # H20042. You can splice this connector to the appropriate wires on the trailer after you remove the 6-Way. On this 7-Way the wire functions are:
White = ground
Red = left turn signal/brake lights
Black = 12 volt power
Blue = electric brakes
Brown = right turn signal/brake lights
Green = tail/running lights
Yellow = reverse lights
If you just want a 4-Way for lights only you can wire in # 18004. Its functions are white for ground, brown for tail/running lights, yellow for left turn signal and brake lights, and green for right turn signal and brake lights.
